Cajundome Shootout Tonight For Mean Green Basketball

LAFAYETTE, La. (2/28/08) - The Mean Green men’s basketball team has taken the last four meetings with Louisiana-Lafayette, but these aren’t the same Ragin’ Cajuns. Tonight, two of the three teams tied for the Sun Belt West Division lead will face off at the Cajundome.

North Texas returns to its home away from home, the Cajundome, where it won four games last year en route to the Sun Belt Conference title. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. CST, and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.

If North Texas wins tonight and at New Orleans on Saturday, and UALR drops either of its two remaining games, the Mean Green would win the West Division title and the Sun Belt Tournament first round bye that comes with it.

What To Watch For

North Texas scored its 14th home win of the year on Saturday, matching the most wins in the Super Pit since its opening in 1973. The 14 wins ties the 1975-76 and 1977-78 squads for the most wins in the arena.

The Mean Green is once again peaking at the right time, and is currently riding a season-best four-game win streak. This is North Texas’ fourth run of at least three-consecutive wins, a feat which has been matched by only three other teams in Mean Green history.

North Texas knocked off Denver by 14 points, Troy by 26 and ULM by 32. The last time a Mean Green squad knocked off three consecutive conference opponents by doubles digits was in 1992. That year, a Jimmy Gales led squad downed five straight Southland Conference teams by an average of 14.6 points per game.

With an average of 13.8 points per game, including 14.4 in SBC play, Collin Dennis is the highest scoring newcomer in the Sun Belt Conference this year.
