Idaho State Wins See-Saw Battle Over Mean Green Volleyball

OREM, Utah (9/13/08) The North Texas volleyball team dropped a four-set slugfest to Idaho State (26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 25-23) at the Utah Valley Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

North Texas (1-7) kicked its offense into high gear, out-hitting Idaho State (2-7) in kills (62-49) and attack percentage (.222-.195), but errors once again doomed the Mean Green. NT piled up 27 attack errors, which was too much to overcome for North Texas.

A back-and-forth battle, the match featured 11 lead changes and 27 ties, including seven lead changes in the fourth set alone. North Texas has now dropped six straight, matching its longest losing streak of 2007.

Roxana Casvean piled up a career and tournament high 20-kills to lead three Mean Green players in double-digits. The outing was Casvean’s first career double-double, and was the first 20-kill outing by a Mean Green player since Katy Prokof last year. Brittani Youman piled on 14 kills and Amy Huddleston added 11.

The Mean Green was once again solid defensively, holding ISU to a .195 attack percentage. Five players recorded double-digit digs, led by libero Sarah Willey’s career-best 15. Breanne Owens and Casvean each had 14 digs, setter Kayla Saey tallied 11 and Lacy Reasons added 10.

North Texas made the switch to Saey at setter for just the second time this season. The freshman responded with a season-high 40 assists. Six other players registered assists for the Mean Green.

North Texas returns to action on Tuesday at Stephen F. Austin.
