Explosive LSU Squad Too Much For Mean Green Football

BATON ROUGE, La. (9/14/08) The defending national champion Louisiana State Tigers proved too quick for the North Texas football team in a 41-3 win over the Mean Green on Saturday night.

The NT offensive line gave Giovanni Vizza ample time to complete 22-of-40 attempts for 149 yards, including 16-of-26 for 110 yards in the first half. The vaunted LSU defensive line failed to reach Vizza, who has yet to throw an interception in three games this season.
The LSU big plays came early courtesy of tailback Charles Scott. He sliced his way to scoring runs of 38 and 43 yards, the longest rushes given up by the Mean Green defense this season. Scott finished the contest with 102 yards on seven carries.
Trindon Holliday was electric as the Tigers return man. He put LSU on top 24-3 with a 92-yard punt return for a touchdown. That was the second longest punt return in LSU history, and was the longest play given up by the Mean Green this year. He also tallied a punt return of 59 yards and a kick return of 38.
Royce Hill set up the Mean Green offense with its best field position of the day when he intercepted an Andrew Hatch pass and returned it to the LSU 25-yard line.
Jeremy Knott got the Mean Green on the scoreboard five plays later with a 33-yard field goal to bring
The Mean Green kept the LSU passing game relatively under wraps. As a team, LSU completed 20 passes for 209 yards and one pick. Overall, the Tigers racked 425 yards of total offense against NT.
Truman Spencer showed why he is one of the elite punters in the Sun Belt. The senior averaged 44.2 on 10 punts, including a long of 60 yards, and pinned the Tigers inside their own 20-yard line twice.
