NTs Rocky Mountain High Tested Against Denver Tonight

DENTON, Texas (1/15/09) North Texas snapped a five game skid with a thrilling triple overtime win over Arkansas State on Saturday, which tied for the longest game in Super Pit history. Now the Mean Green focuses its attention on Denver and head coach Joe Scott’s Princeton offense tonight at the Super Pit.
What To Watch For
No game in Super Pit history has ever gone longer than North Texas’ 86-83 triple overtime win over Arkansas State on Saturday night. The game ties a 1980 triple overtime game against Southeast Louisiana for the longest game in the facility’s history. In program history, only a 4OT game at Baylor in 1988 went longer than Saturday’s epic outing.
Eric Tramiel has been a consistent and imposing force for the Mean Green over the last month. In the last five games, the junior is averaging 13.8 points on 70.0 percent shooting, to go with 7.0 rebounds per game. He has been a play or two shy of a double-double on six occasions this year, including three of his last four outings.
North Texas floor general Dominique Johnson is on pace for one of the top 10 seasons in program history for a point guard. Halfway through the year, the junior has 59 assists (3.7 per game) to just 29 turnovers, which ranks him among the nation’s top 100 players in assist/turnover ratio.
In North Texas’ nine wins this year, Tristan Thompson is averaging a team-high 15.2 ppg on 57.5 percent shooting, including a 55.6 percent clip from 3-point. Thompson reeled off a game-high 24 points nine in overtime in North Texas’ triple overtime thriller win over Arkansas State, securing his fourth 20 point game of the season. Thompson nailed 8-of-9 free throws and was 7-of-13 from the floor against the Red Wolves.
