Lunch With The Mean Green Basketball Team On Wednesday

DENTON, Texas (12/1/09) - Come have lunch with the Mean Green basketball team and local Denton ISD students as NT hosts the University of the Southwest at noon on Wednesday for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day at the Super Pit. Faculty and staff, along with all students, will get free admission and everyone in attendance can enjoy $1 hot dogs and great North Texas basketball.

Over 500 local school kids will be in attendance from Newton Razor, Borman and Rivera elementary schools. North Texas coaches and players visited the three schools on Monday, and stressed the importance of good grades and hard work. The team also gave the kids a writing assignment that involves their trip to the Super Pit on Wednesday.
North Texas is returning from a trip to Boise State, where it fell to its former Big West Conference rival 79-73 on Saturday at Taco Bell Arena. Josh White once again led all scorers with 23 points and ranks and 4th in the Sun Belt with 17.0 points per game.
Now White and the Mean Green welcome the Mustangs of the University of the Southwest to the Super Pit. Located in Hobbs, N.M., the Mustangs are a member of the NAIA's Red River Athletic Conference.
Quick Hitters
- Josh White poured in 23 points at Boise State, which vaults him into 30th place in school history in career points. Just five games into his junior season White already has 850 career points.
- NT is 69th in the country in scoring with 78.0 points per game, but is doing it with a multi-faceted attack. Ten different players are averaging double-digit minutes, and seven players are averaging more than six points per game.
- The Univ. of the Southwest ranks 30th in the NAIA in 3-pointers made per game and 31st in 3-point field goal percentage. Jawaan Payne is the squad's main 3-point threat, and ranks 25th in 3-pointers per game.
- This will be the first meeting between North Texas and the University of the Southwest, which is an NAIA program from Hobbs, N.M. Founded in 1962, the University of the Southwest has a total enrollment of 557.
- Univ. of the Southwest was picked to finish eighth in the 11-team Red River Athletic Conference in their annual preseason coaches poll after finishing the 2008-09 campaign with a 7-15 record. Texas Wesleyan headed the poll, and entered the year ranked 10th in the NAIA National Top 25 Poll.
- Univ. of the Southwest went 2-5 in its opening stretch of regular season games, and is in the middle of a five game exhibition season. The Mustangs have fallen to their first two exhibition opponents, Southern Utah (111-51) and New Mexico Highlands (109-61), by an average of 54 points.
