DENTON, Texas (2/05/09) North Texas basketball standout George Odufuwa was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First-Team on Thursday.
The sophomore business major was selected to the District-6 First Team, and will now be nominated for Academic All-America honors. As an academic leader this year, he was selected to the Mean Green All-Academic Team in 2008, and was also a Student-Athlete Advisory Council representative. Voting for the Academic All-America teams begins on Feb. 10.
Odufuwa leads the Mean Green and ranks sixth in the Sun Belt Conference with 6.8 rebounds per game. In just his first season with NT, Odufuwa has become one of the SBC’s most respected big men while maintaining the second highest GPA on the squad. He leads the Mean Green with two double-doubles this year and has blocked 16 shots and has 19 steals.
His signature game came at Oklahoma State, with 10 points and 13 rebounds. He also hauled in 18 rebounds at home against Troy, which are the most by a player in the Sun Belt Conference this season.
Odufuwa and the Mean Green will be on the court tonight against South Alabama. Action from the Mitchell Center begins at 7 p.m. and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.
