DENTON, Texas (2/07/09) - The Mean Green fended off 15 Louisiana-Lafayette blocked shots with a deadly three-point barrage to knock off the Ragin’ Cajuns, 78-64, back in December. Now, with the Sun Belt standings tightening up, both North Texas and Louisiana-Lafayette will be looking for a crucial SBC West win. Action from the Super Pit begins at 7 p.m. (CST) and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.
What To Watch For
With a pair of blocks at South Alabama, Kedrick Hogans is now just one shy of the program’s career top-10 list. The sophomore needs just one more block to catch Unjel Masters with 46 career swats.
George Odufuwa not only leads the Mean Green on the boards, he is also a team leader in the classroom. The sophomore was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First-Team.
Eric Tramiel recorded his third double-double of the year at South Alabama with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Since the turn of the New Year, Tramiel is leading North Texas with 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game on 56.0 percent shooting.
North Texas has not only increased the quantity of its free throws this year, but the quality has risen as well. NT hit 88.9 percent from the stripe against Western Kentucky, and has now made over 70 percent of its attempts over the last six games. The quality shooting has vaulted the team’s season average to 71.0 percent. In this six game span, NT has hit 112-of-144 (77.8 percent) of its attempts from the line.
Louisiana-Lafayette leads the overall series 15-9, but the Mean Green owns a 6-4 advantage in Denton. North Texas has won four straight games against the Ragin’ Cajuns at the Super Pit, including a 93-78 win in the first round of the 2007 Sun Belt Tournament.
