DENTON, Texas (2/27/09) - North Texas will be facing a red-hot Denver squad on Sunday afternoon. Winners of four-straight, the Pioneers have celebrated snapping their 43-game road losing streak by reeling off wins in two straight away contests. Depending on the outcome, NT can enter the Sun Belt Tournament as high as the fourth seed or as low as the seventh. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m. (CST) and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.
What To Watch For The Mean Green committed just five turnovers at Arkansas State, which ties for the fewest by a Sun Belt squad this year. The last time a North Texas team had fewer turnovers was on February 11, 1993 in a four-turnover outing versus McNeese State. North Texas holds a 10-8 lead in the all-time series with Denver, but is just 2-6 in Magness Arena since it opened in 1999. NT has won four of the last five games against the Pioneers. Adam McCoy is averaging 22.0 points on 59.2 percent shooting over the last four games. The Dallas native is hitting 48.3 percent from downtown as well, including Thursday’s career-best 29 point explosion at Arkansas State. The win over ASU secured a 10th Sun Belt victory for North Texas, giving the program double-digit conference wins for a third straight season. The only other time in school history with three consecutive years of at least 10 conference wins was back in 1924-27, when NT won a pair of Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships with 11, 12 and 13 win campaigns.
