DENTON, Texas (3/3/09) After turning in one of the best seasons in North Texas women’s basketball history, senior forward Amber Jackson was today named to the All-Sun Belt Conference first-team. Jackson leads North Texas in scoring, rebounding, and field goal percentage this season as she became first player to first-team all-conference honors for North Texas since 2003.
Jackson has recorded 14 double-doubles this season, the most since Clara Campbell in the 1985-86 season. She became the 11th player to score 1,000 points for her career against Houston and passed Empress Drane to become the all-time leading rebounder in history. Jackson is third in the Sun Belt Conference in scoring, fourth in rebounding, and fifth in field goal percentage.
Her 471 points this season are the sixth most in a single season at North Texas and her 265 rebounds this year are the ninth best in a single season. She is only the second player in school history to record over 1,300 points and grab 700 rebounds in a career.
Alysha Clark was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year while Rick Insell was the Coach of the Year.
North Texas begins its run in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday as they visit Arkansas State at 7 p.m.
