Forty years ago today, Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon and changed the way people viewed the world. I’m not trying to compare our new website to that phenomenal feat, but we hope to at least change the way you get your Mean Green.
In-depth, interactive and interesting coverage of North Texas athletics – thrown in with a little spice – is our goal for the new site. Sorry, if you’re looking for a log of what players didn’t commit to the football team, you might be at the wrong website. We just think there are too many good stories going on throughout this department to get into that.
That doesn’t mean we won’t cast a critical look at the Mean Green. We want to talk about what you want to talk about, with live chats, podcasts, video and commentary.
As a matter of fact, we’ve got our first live chats scheduled for Wednesday with Athletics Director Rick Villarreal, and next Monday with head football coach Todd Dodge. Both chats will be from 11 a.m. to noon, so feel free to ask whatever you want.
You are also welcome to email us at any time with any comments, suggestions or questions. That email address is askathletics@unt.edu.
We have already heard from some folks asking about the football roster. Bear with us guys, we’re working on it. A lot of the players are switching numbers right now, and the freshmen have yet to be assigned numbers. We will have it updated as soon as we can.
As for today, I just wanted introduce myself, and give you an idea of our credentials as pertaining to the Mean Green. I’ve worked for North Texas athletics for the past five years, the last three of those as the men’s basketball media relations guy. I’m also the public address announcer for the Fort Worth Cats, and formerly served in the same capacity with the Denton Outlaws.
I went to school here during the glory years – 2000-04 – and had the pleasure of covering it all as a student reporter/editor for the NT Daily while playing for the lacrosse team on campus.
It would be tough to find a person that has been to more live North Texas sporting events than me and my colleague, Steven Bartolotta. Between our different sport responsibilities we have both covered over 500 Mean Green games, matches, meets and events. Not to mention thousands of practices.
We literally know the coaches and players that you see each and every Mean Green game day.
As the sports information directors for our sports, we also are the stat maggots that have had our heads buried in the records and history of these programs.
So to put it mildly, this is what we know and what we do, and we would love to share it with you. Give us a shout and let us know what you want to talk about.
