Football -- Scrimmage #2
8/22/2009 12:00:00 AM | Football
Saturday morning marked the second and final scrimmage for the Mean Green Football team before the team takes on Ball State on September 3. The team will take Sunday off before having a two-a-day on Monday and Wednesday afternoon, with only one practice on Tuesday.
- Attire: After starting with just helmets the first two practices, the Mean Green stepped up the physicality a notch by throwing their shoulder pads into the mix. The team will be in shells again at tomorrow night's practice which, as always, is open to the public.
- The defense continued their dominance from the last five days and pretty much held the offense in check. Although the offense was able to move the ball, the D held strong when it came down to it and got off the field.
- Play of the Day: Junior defensive back Robbie Gordon stepped in front of a Riley Dodge pass and would have gone the distance had the play not been blown dead by the coaches.
- Squad of the Day: The defensive line had a monster day registering a bunch of sacks. Almost every drive featured at least one sack.
- Jermei Mathis had a big day on offense. He had several strong runs and scored twice.
