North Texas sophomore guard Mansa El has left the women's basketball team for personal reasons. El started 29 games last season at the point guard position was the team leader in assists last season with 72.
"Mansa has chosen to leave the program on her own accords," said head coach Shanice Stephens. "We wish her well going forward and nothing but success in doing what is next for her."
El's departure leaves North Texas with just three returning players from last year's team. Stephens will work into the mix seven newcomers along with two transfers, Brittney Hudson and Niqky Hughes, who sat out last season.
Here's hoping she was good at chemistry in school because the Mean Green is going to be a completely new team this season. The one thing to keep in mind is Stephens went the entire season last year without a single player that she signed after being hired
Good or bad, it's never easy to implement a new system without having the types of players that you want to run your style of play. Ask Todd Dodge.
The loss of El doesn't help things, but it gives one of the newcomers an opportunity to grab the starting spot when this team hits the practice floor in October.
