DENTON, Texas - Four legendary figures in North Texas athletics will be permantly enshrined as Patrick Cobbs, Kevin Galbreath, Mike Hagler, and Ben Moturi are inducted into the North Texas Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday morning at 8:30. The ceremony takes place at the Gateway Center and is open to the public and tickets may be purchased at the door.
The four athletes comprise the 2010 Hall of Fame class and kick-off the day of festivities for the homecoming day.
Cobbs finished his career at North Texas as the school's all-time leading rusher with 4,050 yards - making him only the 69th player in NCAA history to eclipse the 4,000-yard rushing mark. He holds the North Texas career record for rushing yards (4,050), rushing touchdowns (36), rushing attempts (818) and all-purpose yards (5,255).
Despite playing just two seasons at North Texas, Galbreath rushed for 2,417 yards. He was the first player in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons and had 13 touchdowns. He led North Texas to the 2002 New Orleans Bowl win as he was named the MVP of the game.
Hagler was one of the most versatile track athletes at North Texas during the 1954-55 season despite his career being cut short by illness. He was a member of the 880-yard, the mile and the sprint-medley relay teams, which were among the best in the nation at the time.
A distance specialist in the late 1970s and early '80s, Moturi still holds the school record in the 1,500-meter run with a 3:43.44 time, more than four seconds faster than No. 2. His career best time of 14:22.35 in the 5,000-meter event ranks fourth best in school history.
