Lance Dunbar, surely the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week come tomorrow, did already pick up an early accolade after his 215 yard rushing performance against WKU.
He was named Honorable mention as the CFPA (College Football Performance Awards) running back of the week.
Dunbar had that quick burst against WKU that he hasn't had all year long. He was fast to the holes, broke tackles, and was hard to bring down.
I don't know if Dunbar took it as a challenge that Bobby Rainey was he leading rusher in the SBC coming into the game, but he left little doubt who the best back in the league is.
Mike Canales has clearly breathed life back into this team. The final four games however will be a true test as to how much life and confidence is back.
North Texas will be the underdogs in all four and as Canales continues his impromptu audition for the job, his mission will be to make sure the game against WKU wasn't a fluke. But if any of the Mean Green players want to trick or treat tonight in this, I don't think anybody will mind.
Remember in the last four years, four of the seven North Texas wins have come over the Hilltoppers.
Gotta climb other mountains, but with the help of Dunbar, Canales has North Texas off on the right foot.
