IRVING, Texas – Junior standout women's tennis student-athlete Carolina Laydner has been selected as the American Conference Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year for her outstanding efforts in the classroom and on the courts in the 2025-26 academic year, the league announced Thursday.
Laydner, a junior from Florianópolis, Brazil, is the first UNT player since joining the conference in 2023-24 to be recognized as a scholar-athlete in any sport.
On the court, Laydner led the team on the court this season with a 15-4 overall singles record while also set a program record with a .786 (11-3) line one winning percentage on the year.
Off the court, she was arguably more impressive with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA in the 2025-26 academic year while double majoring in Political Science and Economics.
Selections for the 22 Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, as well as the Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, were made by the Academic Committee on the basis of academic credentials and athletic performance. Each conference school had the option to nominate one student-athlete per sport who has achieved senior academic standing as determined by the institution. A winner was chosen from each of the conference's 20 sponsored sports in addition to at-large selections from sports not sponsored by the conference.
