DENTON, Texas -- The University of North Texas Athletics Department and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton have announced an agreement that will give the hospital exclusive naming rights to the Mean Green Sports Medicine Center. The five-year deal is an extension to the previous sponsorship agreement between the athletics department and the hospital.
“Our hospital has a long tradition of investing in the health of our community. By continuing our relationship as a preferred provider of medical services to UNT Athletics, we are further demonstrating our commitment to the health and well-being of the student athletes who so proudly represent the North Texas region,” said Stan Morton, President of Texas Health Denton. “We have long understood the vision for the athletics department and know that this final piece of the facility puzzle [the new football stadium] is going to make a significant difference for all of the teams at North Texas.”
Athletic Director Rick Villarreal said the hospital’s continued support signals another strong example of the athletic department’s outreach to the Denton community paying dividends. “This really has been a solid friendship between Texas Health Denton and our Mean Green athletic teams,” Villarreal said. “From the financial support that allows us to have a first-class sports medicine center to the collaboration with a top-flight medical program in the region, this is a win-win proposition. I know how hard our staff has worked with the hospital to make this come to fruition and I want to thank everyone for making it happen.”
The main Sports Medicine Center is located on the first floor of the athletic center and has been in place since the department moved into the facility in 2005. The completion of the new stadium will allow for greater visibility of the Sports Medicine Center which supports student-athletes from all 16 intercollegiate athletic teams at North Texas.
