Odufuwa Scores Season High In Victory

DENTON, Texas (12/11/10)- George Odufuwa scored a season-high 16 points and recorded his 22nd career double-double to lead the North Texas men's basketball team to a 68-49 victory against Jackson State on Saturday night.
The Mean Green moves to 8-2 this season, tying the 2008-09 squad for the best 10-game start since 1976-77. North Texas is on an 11-game home winning streak, the longest streak in the Johnny Jones era. Jackson State falls to 2-7. North Texas leads the series, 4-1.
North Texas jumped out to an early lead, and Jackson State was unable to catch up. The 49 points scored by Jackson State is the fewest points that the Mean Green has held an opponent to this season.
Odufuwa led North Texas with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Tristan Thompson and Shannon Shorter joined Odufuwa in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Mean Green hit its first six field goals, including two three-pointers, to jump out to a 19-9 lead at 13:11 in the first half. North Texas held Jackson State scoreless for six minutes, allowing the Mean Green to score 15 unanswered points and extend its lead to 26-9 at 9:55.
North Texas scored the last eight points of the half to enter intermission with its largest halftime lead of the season at 41-19. The 19 points scored by the Tigers was the fewest points allowed by the Mean Green at half since the 2007-08 season. The Mean Green shot 52 percent from the field in the first stanza.
Jackson State cut the lead to 14 points, 47-33, at 11:51 in the second half, but was unable to get any closer. The Mean Green scored five quick points and then brought the lead back to 20, 55-35, after a Thompson three-pointer. The senior hit three in the game.
North Texas returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 19 when it faces Texas State at home at 5 p.m.
