The senior's second career SBC Player of the Week award, Thompson averaged 24.7 points per game on 50.0 percent shooting last week. North Texas is off to a 7-1 start, its best since the 1976-77 squad began 11-1.
The Mean Green has taken two of the last three Sun Belt Player of the Week awards after Josh White snagged the third of his career on Nov. 23.
Thompson, who leads the league with 21.6 points per game overall, poured in a career‐high 29 points against UT Arlington and followed it with 28 against Grambling State and 17 versus Texas Southern. He hit 12‐of‐23 (52.2 percent) from deep for the week, including 5‐of‐6 against Grambling. Even better from the stripe, Thompson went 26‐of‐28 (92.0 percent) from the free throw line.
Thompson was a second-team Preseason All-Sun Belt honoree after earning third team recognition following the 2009-10 campaign when he tied for the team lead at 14.5 points per game. Thompson has reached double figures in 14 straight games and 32 of his last 33.
North Texas returns to action on Wednesday night at Sam Houston State. Tip off from Johnson Coliseum is slated for 7 p.m. and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network (KWRD 100.7-FM, KNTU 88.1-FM).
