Mean Green Softball Wins Conference Series Against ULM

Monroe, La. (3/14/10) - Junior Renae Bromley hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to give the North Texas softball team a 3-2 win in the third and deciding game in the conference series against ULM on Sunday afternoon at the ULM Softball Complex.
The Mean Green improves to 9-9 and 2-1 in the Sun Belt. With the win, North Texas takes two out of the three games against the Warhawks and wins the season's series. ULM falls to 8-11 and 1-2 in the conference.
The third and deciding game featured a pitching duel between Ashley Lail and Kandace Causey. ULM's Causey came back after throwing a no-hitter against the Mean Green and allowed just five Mean Green hits. She struck out 10 Mean Green batters.
Lail struck out a season-high seven batters in seven innings of work. She allowed five hits and no earned runs. Over the three games, the senior made appearances in all three and picked up two wins. She pitched 15.2 innings and struck out 14 batters.
After fouling off five pitches, Bromley hit her third home run of the season to left centerfield, giving the Mean Green a 2-1 lead in the fifth. Courtney Bradshaw walked to get on base and provide the extra run.
Jennifer Smith came up and hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the seventh giving the Mean Green a run that proved to be the game-winner. ULM made it interesting in the seventh adding a run to make it a one-run ball game. Lail forced a groundout with two runners on to end the game.
ULM took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning off a Mean Green error. North Texas was hurt by five errors in the game.
Bromley was the Mean Green's offensive leader this weekend. In three games, she batted .429 and knocked in five RBI.
