Lail Pitches Shutout Against UTA

Arlington, Texas (3/24/10) - Senior Ashley Lail recorded her third straight win in a 2-0 shutout victory for the North Texas softball team against UTA on Wednesday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mean Green improves to 11-9 overall, while the Mavericks fall to 15-14. The Mean Green leads the overall series, 6-4, and has won the last three meetings.
Lail improves to 6-3 this season and has picked up wins in her last three appearances. She has not given up a run in 10.2 innings and an earned run in 19.2 innings. She pitched her first complete game shutout of the season, allowing just two hits and one walk over seven innings of work. The senior gave up the second hit and first walk of the game in the seventh inning.
Mallory Cantler provided Lail with run support with a solo home run in the second inning. It was her third long ball of the season. Lisa Johnson knocked in the second run with an RBI double in the sixth. Megan Rupp scored from first after posting a single to get on base. Johnson's double was her team-leading sixth of the season.
Teri Lyles picked up the loss for UTA despite giving up just two runs off four Mean Green hits. Rebecca Waters was left stranded on base in the fifth inning after posting a double.
North Texas returns to action on Thursday, March 25 when it faces UTSA at home at 6 p.m. The Mean Green will move its Strikeout Cancer charity benefit to the UTSA game on Thursday. Admission will be free and donations will be accepted. Strikeout Ovarian Cancer t-shirts will be sold. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.
