What is going to be the first of many preseason watch lists and awards for Lance Dunbar begins with one of our old favorites, the CFPA has named him one of the Preseason favorites to win their running back trophy.
Quick refresher on the CFPA, it's the College Football Performance Awards, and it's based purely on scientific data throughout the season, sort of the antithesis of the BCS. No computers, just hard-core math, most of which is over my head.
Dunbar is one of 21 running backs on the list, he is the only running back from the Sun Belt Conference and one of the eight RB's from a non-BCS school to appear on the list.
The list includes reigning Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram and many other big-time names in college football. Dunbar, who was the 14th in the nation last season in rushing, is the ninth leading rusher in the nation to return this year.
My only beef with the CFPA is they need to come up with some names for their awards. The generic "Running Back Trophy" just doesn't bring anything to the party. Almost all the college football awards are named after something or someone, but hopefully they won't ask me for a suggestion because I've got nothing.
For Dunbar though, just being on this list is praiseworthy enough.
