Mean Green Basketball Championship Rings Arrive
6/1/2010 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
Designed and created by Jostens, the white gold ring commemorates the team's school record 24 win campaign, as well as its second trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last four seasons.
"I think these rings cap off another tremendous season of North Texas basketball," Jones said. "I'm excited for our players and everyone involved. It represents a great accomplishment for the Mean Green family."
A ring worthy of the occasion, its face measures 3 cm long by 2.5 cm across, and is highlighted by the NCAA basketball logo in white gold across the front.
One side of the ring features the team's motto for the year, "H.I.T.", which stands for hard, intelligent and together. "H.I.T" was a focus for the team throughout the 2010 season, and was always one of the final things Jones wrote on the blackboard before the Mean Green took the floor.
The other side celebrates NT playing in the NCAA Tourney's West Region for the first time in school history.
North Texas captured its second Sun Belt Championship with a 66-63 victory over Troy in the tournament finals. The Mean Green had a school and conference record four players named to all-conference teams. Eric Tramiel was named the SBC Tournament MVP and George Odufuwa, who averaged a double-double in 2010, was named All-Tournament.
