So it's finally upon us, game week number one of football season.
As we enter the football season, let's take a look around the other two North Texas sports that are in action before we are completely immersed in football.
Volleyball head coach Ken Murczek completed a feat that none of his previous counterparts had been able to accomplish. He won his first match as a member of the Mean Green in three straight sets. Not to mention that was the first season opening match that North Texas volleyball has won since 2003.
Mean Green went on the win the Jackson State tournament, dropping only one set in the process, finishing an undefeated 3-0.
If you travel up Bonnie Brae now to the soccer field you'll find another astonishing freshman at work.
Soccer Kelsey Hodges loves playing on Friday nights for some reason. The newcomer has tallied two hat tricks this season. One against Texas Southern in her first-ever collegiate appearance and one against prairie View A&M in her first-ever collegiate road game.
She leads the Sun Belt Conference in goals (6) and points (12) through four games. Teammate Julie Lackey is right behind her in both categories with four goals and nine points.
After struggling to score all season last year, 27 goals total, North Texas soccer has already put up 11 more goals than any other team in the conference with 18.
It's safe to say that even during football season, the Olympic sports are going to shine. For the first time since women's soccer arrived at campus in 1995, Mean Green athletics enters the month of September with a perfect 7-0 record in active sports.
