2010 Player Preview: James Hamilton
8/9/2010 12:00:00 AM | Football
Height: 5-8
Class: Junior
Signed: In 2008 from Cedar Hill High School
2009 Key Stat: 11. That's the number of carries Hamilton received in a reserve role last season. Hamilton rushed 11 times for 49 yards, caught two passes for 12 yards and returned three kicks for 63 yards.
Why he will start: The two likely scenarios that would put Hamilton in the starting line-up involve an injury to Lance Dunbar or an otherworldly fall camp.
Why he won't start: A person named Lance Dunbar. The returning All-American ball-carrier figures to garner the lion's share of the carries in 2010.
Don't forget: In today's modern football, even the high-profile rushers don't get 100 percent of the carries. Just because Hamilton may not be in the starting line-up does not mean he won't see the field this season.
2010 Outlook: Hamilton's focus for two-a-days should be on giving the coaching staff a reason to get him touches. Hamilton has shown the talent to not only run but catch passes and return kicks as well. He could be the do-it-all, utility player that Cam Montgomery was in 2009, plus the ability to contribute on special teams.
