Here's how the new TapStats software works everything and how we came across it. The programmer of this software developed this for the University of Kansas last year as a rival to other stat monitor software programs. You know the monitors you seen courtside at bball games and for football.
The program was a huge success, so much so the Big 12 used it for their basketball tourney and NCAA obtained it for the basketball tournament themselves. The programmer then saw the benefit that the new IPad's would give him, made the software even better, and developed it into a full-blown app for fans, media, and anyone else.
I was a little skeptical at first, however when we downloaded a demo version, I was hooked immediately. It blows everything else out of the water, trust me. Who carried the ball? How many tackles does Craig Robertson have? Is Josh White about to put up a triple double? All of it is right there.
The technical in's and out's aren't important, but what you get is real-time stats from the stadium on your phone if your there, or your car, a banquet, a cave, or anywhere else you go.
Bottom line, you have an IPhone, IPad, or IPod Touch and get the internet, you can get this program anywhere in the world. Other phones and providers are being worked on as well so it won't be just an IPhone, but that will take some time.
Example, you're at a wedding that goes up against, oh say Texas Tech at the Super Pit in November. Yeah I know who schedules a wedding on Tuesday night, but roll with it. Your outta pocket so much that your phone is all you have to keep up with the game.
You have the app, you have everything you need to know about the game and more all at your finger tips.
Right now the app works for home games only, however there is some talk if there is enough of a demand to add road football games to the mix. 4.99 isn't that much, but the athletic department does receive a cut of that money for each app sold.
It's new technology that also will eventually incorporate promotional items as well. Another example. Say you have the app, we send out a promo item that says for the next 30 minutes, dollar hot dogs if you show the message to the concession stands. Stuff like that.
But for all you app junkies out there, this is another one worth looking at.
