DENTON, Texas - North Texas faces off with league leader Arkansas State on Saturday night in a key Sun Belt Conference clash at 6 p.m. in Jonesboro. The Mean Green (3-5, 2-2) has won three of its past five games while the Red Wolves (5-2, 3-0) have won four straight games and are unbeaten in Sun Belt Conference play at 3-0.
North Texas has won three of its past five games, which is the best stretch of football for the Mean Green since the 2004.
The Mean Green is looking for its first two-game winning streak since 2004. North Texas hasn't won consecutive league games since 2004 either. Since 2005, North Texas has a record of 0-15 when coming off a win.
Arkansas State has won four straight meetings against North Texas, but the four wins have been by a combined 18 points. Arkansas State won on the final play of the game in 2007 to win by four.
In 2008, ASU needed nine straight points in the final 15 minutes to win by five. 2009 saw North Texas rally from 27-0, but fall short 30-26. Last season it was 21-3 Red Wolves before another Mean Green rally, but it fell short 24-19.
North Texas is a +6 in turnover margin this season and has forced 18 turnovers this season. It is already the most turnovers in a single season for the Mean Green since the 2007 season, when North Texas forced 24 turnovers.
North Texas running back Lance Dunbar became just the 25th player in NCAA history with 3,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving in history career. Dunbar topped the 1,000-yard mark receiving with 50 yards against ULM.
Dunbar needs only 219 yards to become only the sixth player in NCAA history to have 4,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving. He is the only player in Sun Belt Conference history on the list.
North Texas is 14th in the nation in sacks this season and leads the Sun Belt Conference with 23. The Mean Green is the only school in the league that has three players in the top-10 in the league in sacks per game. Brandon Akpunku (1st), Brandon McCoy (4th), and Julian Herron (9th) have combined for 15 of the 23 sacks on the year.
