DENTON, Texas - North Texas comes back to Denton on the hunt for its second win of the season and its first conference victory as the Florida Atlantic Owls come into Apogee Stadium on Saturday, October 8 at 6:30 p.m.
The game will be televised on the Sun Belt Network and can also be found on ESPN3.com. It will also be broadcast online to Mean Green Premium members. Fans are encouraged to wear all green for the Green Out game to show school pride.
Through two games at Apogee Stadium the combined attendance is just under 50,000 at 49,256. Its the biggest two-game attendance figure in school history, beating the old record of 49,158 set in 2003.
The best three-game attendance stretch in school history is 66,397 set during the first three-games of the 2003 season. North Texas needs to have 17,142 against Florida Atlantic to break that record.
The Mean Green are coming off a 41-24 loss to Tulsa last weekend, but won their last contest at Apogee Stadium 24-21 against Indiana. FAU has a 0-4 record, but North Texas has never beaten the Owls in Denton, losing the last four matchups at home. The Mean Green is looking to avoid an 0-2 to start to the Sun Belt Conference season. Since joining the league, the Mean Green has been 0-2 to start SBC play only three times. In Florida last year against FAU, North Texas won 21-17. FAU ranks last in almost all SBC offensive categories which plays into the Mean Green’s favor as they have held the opposing ground game to under 100 yards the past two weeks. Running back Lance Dunbar is third all-time on the North Texas rushing list behind Jamario Thomas and Patrick Cobbs. He needs 566 yards to pass Cobbs and become the all-time leading rusher in school history.
