DENTON, Texas – North Texas guard Roger Franklin’s transfer request has been approved by the NCAA, which makes the former Oklahoma State and Duncanville High School standout immediately eligible to play for the Mean Green.
“We are excited about the NCAA’s ruling in allowing Roger to participate and be eligible for this upcoming season,” said North Texas head coach Johnny Jones. “Roger being cleared to play will help us in several areas, including our depth. His leadership ability will be very beneficial for our team.”
Franklin appeared in 56 games over the last two seasons for OSU. He shot 55.2 percent from the floor while averaging 2.6 points per game as a freshman, and upped his rebounding average to 2.3 per game as a sophomore. A defensive stalwart, Franklin tallied 25 steals and 14 blocks in his time with the Cowboys. He tallied a career-high 13 points against Iowa State and eight rebounds at Texas.
A Parade All-American at Duncanville High School, Scout.com listed Franklin as the No. 9 small forward and the No. 43 rated player overall in the country as a senior. He posted averages of 18.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game as a senior in earning District 7-5A MVP honors and a consensus “four-star” recruiting rank.
Franklin was forced to sit out Wednesday night’s exhibition win over Oklahoma City, but will be in uniform when North Texas opens the season at the Super Pit against St. Gregory’s on Friday night at 7 p.m.
