DENTON, Texas - The North Texas football team takes to the road once again after the always helpful bye week as they face Troy at 12 p.m. on Saturday. The Mean Green travel to Troy, Alabama as they look for their first road win of the season against the Trojans.
This is the last road game of the year before returning to Apogee Stadium for two home contests. The game will be broadcast on the Sun Belt Network.
North Texas is winless on the road this season but has a chance of changing that against Troy who is 2-6. Troy has won six straight against North Texas in the series. Three of the first four games were decided by a score or less.
However the last four have been lopsided victories for Troy. On the road against the Trojans the Mean Green has only averaged 13.7 points a game in four contests.
Troy ranks last in the Sun Belt in total defense and rushing defense which could play hand into a historic day for North Texas running back Lance Dunbar, as he is only 180 rushing yards away from passing all-time rusher Patrick Cobbs.
The Mean Green ranks first in the Sun Belt Conference and 13th in the nation in turnover margin with a +7 advantage this season. North Texas has gained at least two turnovers in every game this year and dating back to last season, is riding a stretch of 14 consecutive games of gaining at least one turnover.
North Texas has recovered 12 fumbles this year, which ranks third among all FBS schools. They also rank in the top 25 in the nation in total sacks this year with 24 takedowns.
Continuing with the defensive theme for North Texas, the Mean Green has held their opponent to 21 points or less in every victory so far this year.
