North Texas Postgame Notes vs. Troy

- North Texas freshman middle linebacker Derek Akunne made his first career start, replacing the injured regular starter Zach Orr.
- North Texas forced and recovered a Troy fumble in the first quarter, making this the 15th straight game that the Mean Green has created at least one turnover.
- North Texas took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter which was just its second lead on the road this season. The Mean Green held a lead for 8:20 at Louisiana-Lafayette before losing to the Ragin' Cajuns 30-10.
- North Texas' 10 points in the first quarter tied its season-high for points scored in that quarter. The Mean Green also scored 10 against Louisiana-Lafayette.
- North Texas had 130 yards of total offense after the first quarter, which was more than the Mean Green had at halftime in its last game at Arkansas State.
- James Hamilton broke free for a 52-yard touchdown in the second quarter which is the longest rush of his North Texas career and the second-longest rush by any North Texas player this season (60 by Dunbar vs. Louisiana-Monroe).
- North Texas' 24 points in the first half is the most points scored by the Mean Green in the first half this season and tied the most points in a half.
- The 289 yards of offense in the first half by North Texas is more than the Mean Green had in four different games this season (Alabama, FAU, ULL and Arkansas State).
- Wide receiver Ivan Delgado reached a career high for receiving yards in the first half with 59. He also tied his career high for receptions with four.
- Delgado had his fourth consecutive game with at least three receptions after combined total of just three receptions in the first five games.
- North Texas was 3-of-3 in red zone opportunities against Troy after coming into the game ranked last in the Sun Belt with a red zone success rate of just 58 percent.
- Quarterback Derek Thompson set a career-high in pass completions with 31 breaking his previous best of 23 which he set vs. Louisiana-Monroe earlier this season. He also fell just one yard short of a career high with 331 passing yards.
- North Texas had 380 yards of offense after three quarters, which is more total offense than the Mean Green had in seven of its previous nine games this season.
- North Texas took a 31-27 lead in the fourth quarter on a 46-yard touchdown pass from Derek Thompson to Chris Bynes. It was the first time this season that North Texas held a fourth-quarter lead on the road.
- The 503 yards of offense was the most by a North Texas team since it had 513 vs. FIU in 2009.
- This was the first time North Texas has ever won at Troy, losing the previous four meetings.
- North Texas won its fourth game of the season which is the most wins in a season since 2004 when the Mean Green won the Sun Belt championship and went to the New Orleans Bowl.
