NEXT GAME: North Texas continues its road swing at No. 24 Mississippi State on Nov. 27 at 1:30 p.m.
North Texas had taken the last two meetings with the Mavericks, and still leads the overall series 30-22.
The Mean Green fell to UTA by 33, which is the largest loss since Arkansas took a 35-point decision in January of 2004. It marks just the sixth 30-point loss under Jones.
UTA ripped off a 32-0 run on the Mean Green courtesy of 19 first half turnovers. The Mavericks scored 23 points off those turnovers and went in to the break on top 55-18 – the largest halftime deficit of the Johnny Jones era. NT trailed by as many as 42 to the Mavericks in the first.
North Texas’ 19 first-half turnovers are more than the team had in both of its first two games this year. NT only had one 20-turnover game in all of last season.
Usually solid in the paint, UTA owned the lane with a 54-14 advantage in points in the paint. NT had averaged a 40-21 edge in paint points in the first two games of the year.
