The Mean Green plays its final game of the 2011 regular season as it hosts Middle Tennessee in the home finale. North Texas had a bye week after losing to Western Kentucky 31-21 on November 19. The Blue Raiders lost their home finale to FIU 31-18 last week and have lost five straight games.
A North Texas win over Middle Tennessee would give the Mean Green its best record and most wins in a single season since 2004. It would tie for the fourth-most wins in a single season since returning to Division I-A in 1995. North Texas would also have the most conference wins since 2004 and the most league wins by a first-year head coach at the Division I level at North Texas since 1973.
North Texas is 3-2 at Apogee Stadium and has already guaranteed itself its first non-losing season at home. With a win at Apogee the Mean Green would finish the year having won three of its final five games, which has happened only five times since 1986.
Running back Lance Dunbar is closing in on Patrick Cobbs for the all-time rushing lead. Dunbar can pass Cobbs with 140 yards against Middle Tennessee to become the all-time leading rusher in school history. He also needs 89 yards rushing to become only the sixth player in NCAA history to have 4,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving. He is the only player in Sun Belt Conference history on the list.
Kick-off is set for 3 PM at Apogee Stadium.
