HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - North Texas was dispatching opponents at the Super Pit at a blistering pace until Florida Atlantic came to town last month. The Sun Belt regular season champions cruised into Denton and handed the Mean Green a 72-55 loss - the squad's first in 17 games at the Super Pit.
Now NT gets a shot at redemption in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Sunday evening. Tip off from the Summit Arena Convention Center Court is slated for 6:45 p.m. and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.
North Texas scored its 20th win of the season in the opening round of the SBC Tournament on Saturday. The Mean Green has scored at least 20 wins in each of the last five years, which is a Sun Belt high.
Tristan Thompson poured in 16 points in the win over Troy, which gives him 514 on the season. That tally gives the senior just the 26th 500-point season in school history.
George Odufuwa snagged his 33rd career double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds against the Trojans. For his career, Odufuwa is averaging 10.7 points and 9.6 rebounds in seven career Sun Belt Tournament games.
NT is on a four game winning streak in Sun Belt Tournament games and has won six of its last seven SBC Tournament games. The Mean Green has reached at least the quarterfinal of the Sun Belt Tournament for the past five years.
