As our spring sports come to a close I am proud to share with you of all the success that the Mean Green has accomplished.
The record breaking season for the North Texas women's golf team continues as for the first time in school history the Mean Green has been selected to play in the NCAA Women's Golf Regionals. It is the first time in school history that North Texas has sent a team to participate in the NCAA Regional after previously only sending two individuals. The Mean Green will join 23 other teams at the NCAA Central Regional tournament which will be held at Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana on May 5-7. North Texas is the No. 17 seed in the Central Region.
Men's Golf Team had an unforgettable trip to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Alabama this past week. Sophomore Carlos Ortiz surged into the lead and North Texas was four shots back after the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship. Ortiz shot 4-under par 68 and was the clubhouse leader after 36 holes by one stroke. North Texas as a team shot a two-over par round of 290 and sat 1-over par for the tournament, tied with ULM for second place and four strokes behind the leader Denver entering the final round. Unfortunately Mother Nature had another plan.
Due to torrential rains in the area, the final round of the Sun Belt Conference Golf Championship was canceled. Denver, the leader after the second round, is the conference champion while North Texas finishes tied with ULM for second place, four strokes behind the Pioneers.
The No. 38 Mean Green will now wait to see if they are selected as an at large for the NCAA Men's Golf Championship.
North Texas track & field nabbed five top-five finishes Saturday at the Michael Johnson Invitational which was hosted by Baylor University. Seniors Alysha Adams and Jordan Wehr led the way for the Mean Green with a third place finish each.
As I watch the progress starting to wrap up on the Stadium outside my window, the excitement of what is to come for our Mean Green fans is more than exhilarating. I hope to see you at the various upcoming events throughout the summer. Now more than ever is time to join us on this exciting ride!
GO MEAN GREEN!!
