Several North Texas football players and staff are using their time for a good cause, volunteering for the BioLume 5k race in Denton, which benefits cancer research and cancer patients.
The volunteer effort, led by former offensive lineman and current volunteer assistant coach Victor Gill, includes players such as Lance Dunbar, J.J. Johnson, Daniel Prior, Chris Bynes, Zach Orr and Drew Miller, who have given their time to help with the coordination of the event.
"It should be a really good time for everyone from all ages, to support a truly good cause," said Gill. "The proceeds go to the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center to help research, and in addition the founder of the organization, Sam Davenport, is making several donations to those who otherwise couldn't afford available treatment."
"I'm looking forward to helping out," said North Texas running back Lance Dunbar. "This is an opportunity to help out for a real good cause that should benefit cancer patients in need."
The BioLume 5k run takes place on July 9th at 7:30, at the Buffalo Valley Event Center in Denton. Trails will be illuminated and participants will be given glow sticks. Refreshments, live entertainment, and costume contests will round out the evening.
Participants can register at runbiolume.com or at the North Texas Athletic Center on South Bonnie Brae.
