No. 29- 29,473 Mean Green Fans Pack Fouts
The 2003 season saw the Mean Green amidst a run of success the program hadn't seen in its return to Division 1-A (FBS) football. After an improbable run to the New Orleans Bowl in 200 via the SBC Championship with a 5-7 record, to the first bowl win in 2002 via a second straight SBC title, 2003 opened up with high hopes for North Texas.
Game one featured a showdown with the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, Okla., a place they don't lose very often and saw a 37-3 loss for the Mean Green.
The second game was against Baylor at Fouts Field. Official attendance for the game was 29,473, a record that will stand for all-time at Fouts Field with the movement to the new stadium this season.
Baylor was overmatched from the start against arguably the best North Texas team of the decade. Brandon Kennedy opened the scoring with a 24-yard fumble return for a TD with 5:25 left in the first quarter and the Mean Green never looked back.
After and 81-yard Cobbs scoring run late in the quarter, Bazaldua added a field goal in the second and NT lead 17-0 at the half.
Roy Bishop scored the next two touchdowns for the Mean Green to expand the lead to 31-0 before Baylor got on the board with 8:13 to go in the third.
Bishop would add one more score along with Kevin Moore and James Mitchell and after a late Baylor TD the final score would be 52-14.
The Mean Green would finish the year as Sun Belt Champions one again with a 9-4 record.
