No. 26- 26 Straight SBC Wins
Entering the first season of Sun Belt Conference play against ULM in 2001, North Texas stood 0-4 on the season. The Mean Green dropped a close decision to the Warhawks 19-17, a loss that would be the only SBC loss for the program for nearly four years.
Middle Tennessee marked the first win in SBC history for the Mean Green and the first of 26 straight wins over conference opponents. The streak started Oct. 13, 2001 against the Blue Raiders and ran until Oct. 4, 2005 when Troy finally defeated NT 13-10.
Four straight Sun Belt Conference Titles and four straight New Orleans Bowl appearances were mingled in with the Mean Green's thunderous entrance into the SBC.
From the 5-7 season of 2001 to the high water mark of 9-4 in 2003, it will be a while before someone else can match the show that North Texas put on as it entered the SBC.
