DENTON, Texas (8/25/11) - Membership in the Mean Green Club has reached an all-time high. As of August 18, 2011, there are 1,026 members of the Mean Green Club. This surpasses the previous record of 703 members set back in 2007.
Many factors have contributed to the recent success. One factor was an increase in staff for the Mean Green Club, allowing staff to build stronger relationships with current and prospective donors.
Another was the launch of the Mean Green Club Representative Program, which was vital to the increase in memberships, yielding 197 new members and over $58,000 in new contributions to the Mean Green Club. Assistant athletic director for development Kendra Talkin has overseen the Representative Program.
"Utilizing volunteers has provided us with an outreach program to help grow our donor base and educate them on what their donations support, which is student-athlete scholarships," said Talkin.
A third reason for the increase in membership has been the excitement surrounding the new Apogee Stadium. Club level seating and improved lower-bowl seating sightlines have given fans the incentive to join the Mean Green Club.
Overall, increasing membership in the Mean Green Club is vital to the success of North Texas Athletics.
"The response from Mean Green Club members in 2011 has been nothing short of amazing," said senior associate athletic director Cooper Jones. "With an increase of over 100 percent, we realize the importance our donor base places on the student-athlete scholarship fund at North Texas. Through the generosity of alumni, friends and fans we are well on our way to athletic director Rick Villarreal's goal of 3,000 Mean Green Club members."
