Tonight marks the official opening of North Texas football fall camp, under the lights at the new stadium. There will be a lot of storylines to follow as the camp unfolds. Can Derek Thompson continue to emerge as not only the starting QB, but also a team leader?
How will some of the new faces on both the D and O-lines do? Which freshman could we potentially be seeing a lot of in less than a month at FIU? And how many yards will Lance Dunbar rush for this year?
A few other items of note to keep a watch for. First off the beloved stadium webcam, which I have come to love as much as you, will be shutting down tonight forever.
I'm not exactly sure when the plugged gets pulled, but make sure you go visit the camera one last time to say goodbye. That sucker has been through a lot of nasty weather too.
Also the roster online is still in the process of being finalized. As many of you might have noticed, a lot of new faces have appeared. These names are all part of the 105 and will have their shot at playing time in fall camp.
We are also going to update the weights of all the returners. I know everyone is excited about how strength coach Frank Wintrich did in the summer.
Pretty good. A few notable changes in the weight class to talk about. The big winner this off-season was Richard Abbe. Known as "Big Country" Abbe lost about half of the population. Abbe went from 357 to a limber 319.
He's still big, but in much, much better proportion. Tevinn Cantly also comes into the fall camp much lighter, dropping from 336 to 311. Abbe and Cantly both look a million times better this fall than 12 months ago.
The big-gainers, well of course it should be someone named Gaines. DE Frank Gaines added 26 pounds and went from 229 to 255. K.C. Obi added nine pounds and is at 249, freshman Terell Brooks comes in at 320, and Sarge, aka Brandon McCoy, upped his weight to 270 pounds.
For the most part everyone added or dropped around 10 pounds but they enter camp no doubt in the best shape of their lives thanks to Coach Wintrich.
