GAME NOTES
DENTON, Texas – North Texas will be celebrating the careers of three seniors on Saturday, as well as bringing awareness to a worthy cause. Tip off against Louisiana-Lafayette from the Super Pit is slated for 3:30 p.m. and can be seen on the Sun Belt Network (ESPN3.com, ESPN Full Court Package, CSS, CST).
Playing in their final home games will be Kedrick Hogans, Alonzo Edwards and Tyler Hall, and the North Texas coaching staff will be donning some new apparel.
NT coaches will be donning blue bow ties during Saturday’s game in support of On The Line, a campaign geared at prostate cancer awareness. Run in conjunction with Black Coaches and Administrators (BCA), over 70 Division I coaches from across the country will be wearing blue bow ties for the cause. One-in-six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime, and the risks jump to one-in-five for African American men. For more information on the program visit ontheline.com.
A warrior in the paint for the Mean Green since 2007, Hogans ranks third in school history with 90 career blocks, and 10th with a career field goal percentage over 54 percent. Hogans was a Third Team Preseason All-Sun Belt selection prior to this season after ranking second in the league in 2011 with a 60.5 shooting percentage in league games, which helped North Texas advance to the Sun Belt Tournament finals for the second time since his arrival. He scored nearly 600 career points and grabbed almost 400 rebounds.
A fan favorite and a sharpshooter from deep, Hall’s work ethic over the last three years paid off this season with starts in three of North Texas’ last seven games. Hall has appeared in 28 games for North Texas in his career, including 17 this season, and has taken on a leadership role for the Mean Green. He lit up Huston-Tillotson for a career-high 22 points and seven rebounds, and put the nail in last year’s LSU win with a 25-foot 3-pointer that quieted the Maravich Assembly Center. Hall is a career 30 percent shooter from beyond the arc, which puts him among the best in the Johnny Jones era.
A relentless worker in the paint, Edwards leaves North Texas with a 51 percent shooting mark, which puts him among the top 25 most efficient shooters in program history. Edwards started five games for the Mean Green over the last two seasons, and appeared in 55 contests. He overcame knee injuries to score in 36 games for North Texas, including a pair of career performances in the wins over Texas State, Florida Atlantic and Loyola Marymount. At his best in the LMU Classic in Los Angeles, Edwards was 9-of-10 from the floor over the three games, and has made 17 of his last 24 shots since then.
