North Texas Announces 2012 Football Schedule

DENTON, Texas - The University of North Texas will play a nationally-televised game at newly-opened Apogee Stadium, the school announced today along with the entire 2012 football schedule. The Mean Green will host Louisiana-Lafayette in Denton for a national audience on either ESPN or ESPN2 in a midweek game Oct. 16.
North Texas will open the season at LSU Sept. 1. The Tigers are coming off of an appearance in the BCS National Championship where they lost to Alabama 21-0.
The home-opener for North Texas will be against Texas Southern Sept. 8. Road games against Kansas State and Houston round out the non-conference schedule.
The Mean Green will begin the Sun Belt Conference schedule with a home game against Troy Sept. 22.
North Texas will also host league members Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama and defending conference champion Arkansas State. With the addition of South Alabama to the Sun Belt Schedule, North Texas will not play FIU this season.
"We are excited about the opportunity to showcase this beautiful facility to a national audience and help bring some much-deserved recognition the Sun Belt Conference," head coach Dan McCarney said. "It will be a great chance for our students, alumni and members of the Denton community to come out and show everyone around the country what a special place this is."
Five of North Texas 12 opponents played in bowl games last season, including Sun Belt members Arkansas State and Louisiana-Lafayette. LSU, Kansas State and Houston all finished the season ranked in the top 15 of the final Associated Press poll.
