Atterberry Named To Ray Guy Award Watch List

DENTON, Texas - North Texas senior punter Will Atterberry is on the Ray Guy Award preseason watch list heading into the 2012 season. Atterberry, one of 25 players on the list, was a nominee for the Ray Guy Award last season which goes to the nation's best punter.
Atterberry led the Sun Belt Conference in punting last season at 43.5 yards a kick and was named to the first-team all-conference. Atterberry had 16 punts of over 50-yards in 2011 and 26 punts that were inside the 20-yard line, which ranked eighth nationally.
His average of 43.5 yards a kick was 24th in the nation last season and he is the nation's 16th leading punter returning for the 2012 season. North Texas was ninth in the nation last season in net punting average at 39.8 yards.
Atterberry has led North Texas in punting in three straight years and his average of 43.5 yards a punt in 2011 ranked fifth all-time at North Texas. Atterberry is the only punter from the Sun Belt Conference to make this list.
