Byrd two plays into the scrimmage ripped off a 70-yard touchdown run, while Brown had a 70-yard touchdown run of his own a few series later. On his scamper, Brown was tracked down by Mike Marshall near the 10-yard line, but busted out of his tackle and into the end zone.
The North Texas defense later in the scrimmage recorded a safety when Richard Abbe went up the middle for a sack in the end zone. During red zone work, Byrd had his second rushing touchdown of the day from 17-yards out.
Freshman tight end Cooper Jones had a big afternoon with a 58-yard touchdown pass from Andrew McNulty. Jones went underneath the Mean Green defense and got behind everyone for the big play.
The highlight of the scrimmage came when Busby, a true freshman, ended the day with a pick six. Working in the two-minute drill, Brent Osborn went for an out route and Busby was able to jump the route for the interception and went 67 yards for the score, which ended the scrimmage.
North Texas returns to the practice field on Monday to continue preparation for the start of the season at LSU.
