UTSA Sweeps Doubleheader Against Mean Green

San Antonio, Texas (2/20/13) - The UTSA softball team swept the doubleheader against North Texas on Wednesday night at Roadrunner Field. The Mean Green lost by scores of 7-0 and 2-0.
The Mean Green falls to 4-7 overall, while the Roadrunners improve to 6-4. North Texas begins its road trip with an 0-2 record. The team travels next to San Marcos to compete in the Texas Shootout.
Haylee Staton pitched a two-hit shutout in the opening game for UTSA, and Jolene Graham followed in the nightcap with a four-hit shutout. The Mean Green was outhit, 16-6, in the combined two games.
UTSA jumped on the Mean Green early, scoring a run in the first inning of the first game. Alexis Ramirez walked to lead off the inning and later scored the first run on an RBI single. The Roadrunners added to the score in the third inning with a double steal and a two-run homer.
The Mean Green could not get its offense going, stranding six runners on base in the first game.
Lauren Poole took the loss for the Mean Green in the nightcap. She gave up two unearned runs off six hits. She held the Roadrunners scoreless through four innings before the Roadrunners scored two runs off two hits and a Mean Green error in the fifth.
Tori Bice recorded a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning, but the Mean Green was unable to advance her home.
North Texas returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 21 when it begins play in the Texas Shootout against Texas State.
