No. 1 Oklahoma Defeats Mean Green Softball

DENTON, Texas (4/23/13) - Top-ranked Oklahoma defeated the North Texas softball team, 12-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium.
The Sooners (40-3) jumped out to an early lead and then sealed the win on a run-rule with four runs in the sixth inning. The Mean Green was unable to keep up offensively with the No.1-ranked team in the country.
Keilani Ricketts picked up her 23rd win of the season. She pitched four innings and gave up one earned run off three hits. She struck out six batters and walked one.
Jordan Terry posted the first hit for the Mean Green and its only run in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to center field. It was her team-leading eighth home run of the season.
Brittany Simmons (8-9) picked up the loss for the Mean Green. She walked her first two batters, and they both came around to score off base hits. Ricketts singled to center field and moved around the bases to score off a groundout for OU's third run of the inning.
Shelby Pendley posted a three-run homer in the top of the second to extend OU's lead to 7-0. Terry cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning with her home run.
Callie Parsons knocked in a run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly, and Jessica Shults capped the scoring for OU in the sixth with a two-run homer.
OU outhit the Mean Green, 9-4. North Texas was hurt by two errors.
North Texas returns to action on Wednesday when it faces UTA on the road in Arlington.
