ULL Powers Past North Texas In Sweep

DENTON, Texas (4/6/13) - The Louisiana-Lafayette softball team used seven home runs to power past North Texas in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium. The Ragin' Cajuns run-ruled the Mean Green, 10-0, in the first game and won the nightcap, 8-2.
The Ragin' Cajuns improve to 25-11 and 7-4 in the Sun Belt, while North Texas falls to 18-16 and 6-6 in the conference. North Texas and ULL will play the third game of the series on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Louisiana-Lafayette jumped out early in both games against the Mean Green. In the opening win, Nerissa Myers led off the game with a solo home run. After Sarah Draheim drew a walk, Matte Haack hit a two-run homer to put ULL up, 3-0.
ULL sealed the win with a five-run fifth inning. Haack led off the fifth with her second home run of the game. Myers hit the fourth home run of the game with a grand slam to right center field. Myers went 3-for-4 in the game with two home runs, a double and six RBI.
Jordan Wallace (14-6) picked up the win in the first game. She pitched four innings and allowed just one Mean Green hit. ULL outhit the Mean Green, 11-2, in the opening game.
Draheim homered in the first inning of the nightcap to give ULL an early lead. North Texas tied the game in the bottom of the second, 1-1, off a Karly Williams RBI single up the middle. The Mean Green left three runners stranded in the second.
ULL responded with five runs in the third. Myers and Shellie Landry both homeredQ. The Ragin' Cajuns walked three times in the inning.
Lesley Hirsch knocked in the Mean Green's second run of the day with an RBI single in the fourth inning. NT also left two runners stranded. The Mean Green left nine total runners on base in the nightcap.
Each team posted eight hits in the game, but four of ULL"s hits were for extra bases.
Ashley Kirk (8-6) took the loss in the nightcap. She pitched seven innings and gave up seven runs off eight hits. She walked five batters and struck out 11. The 11 strikeouts is the second most in a single game that Kirk has recorded this season.
