DENTON, Texas - North Texas women’s basketball inked California Junior College Player of the Year Janis Peterson to a National Letter of Intent. Peterson will take the court for the Mean Green in the 2013-14 season as a junior following her two-year stint at City College of San Francisco.
“We are very happy that Janis will be part of our Mean Green women’s basketball family,” coach Mike Petersen said. “She is a very versatile player who can score in a variety of ways. She has excellent position flexibility and will give us additional offensive options.”
The 6-1 guard was a prolific scorer for San Francisco. She averaged 22.6 points a game during the 2010-11 season, the top scoring average in the Coast North Division of the CCCAA, and made 78 three-pointers and 120 free throws. To top it off, she won Co-Junior College Player of the Year honors to conclude her freshman season.
She followed it up with another dominant performance during her sophomore campaign for the Rams, averaging 18 points a game to lead San Francisco to a co-conference championship.
During both of her seasons for the Rams, Peterson was the Coast-North Division scoring champion.
