Daily Digs with Dudding: Week 8

Daily Digs is a social media-integrated blog recapping #MGVB's daily happenings, written by student-athlete @Katie_Dudding. The junior defensive specialist takes fans behind-the-scenes through her perspective with a new piece released each week.
Wednesday: We attended Miss Tina's memorial service as a team, as a family. While some of us stayed the night with Cami in Arlington the night before, the rest of the team took a charter bus from Denton to Arlington. The service was beautiful, and we were pleased to see that some of the North Texas staff attended as well. Following the service, we retrieved the butterflies we ordered to be handed out to close friends and family. We all gathered around Cami and released the monarch butterflies to fly up and away into the sky. The butterfly has become something that has so much more meaning to us as a team. It felt as if Miss Tina was surrounding all of us during that time, letting her peaceful presence comfort us all. ![]()

Friday: After having a solid practice and a delicious Prairie House pre-game meal, we watched film and looked over scouting sheets to prepare for the visiting Charlotte squad. We fought hard in the match for four tough sets, but couldn't overcome the extra-motivated 49ers. Charlotte defeated us for the first time in program history. Despite the loss, Carnae picked up her 15th double-double of the season to pull herself within one of the NCAA-lead. THATTA GIRL NAE!
(Editor's note: Junior OH Carnae Dillard picked up her 16th double-double on Sunday, which is now tied for the best in the nation)
With 19 kills-10 digs, @naenae_cbd5 recorded her 16th double-double this season, tied for the best in @NCAAVolleyball! #MGVB @Conference_USA

Saturday: This weekend's games were a little awkward since we had a home match on Friday and were scheduled to travel to LA Tech on Sunday. We had a difficult practice before we headed to Shreveport, LA where we stayed for the night. The long four-hour bus ride consisted of homework, individual meetings, and absolutely NO sleep. Avid supporters of our fellow Mean Green athletes, we all attempted to watch our North Texas football team play on ASN from our computers on the bus, but the shaky wifi just refused to cooperate. From what we did get to watch, it was really cool to see all of the players wearing pink wristbands to support not only breast cancer awareness but also Cami with her and Tina's initials sew on as well. It's 100% apparent we really are all in this together. ![]()

Sunday: After a short bus ride the rest of the way to Ruston, we took on the Lady Techsters of LA Tech, looking to turn our luck on the road around. It has been a rough season as a visiting team; we haven't won a road match since we beat UTEP in five in El Paso on September 26 to open C-USA play. Lucky for us, @NTCoachPali is really good about getting our team prepared for battles on the road. We dug deep and finished the Lady Techsters in 3 dominant sets to sweep the 2014 season series with LA Tech! In fact, we haven't dropped a set to them in nearly a decade! ![]()
