MIAMI - North Texas softball got up early on the Panthers but could not hold the lead as FIU completed the sweep with a 10-2 win on Sunday.
"I'm highly disappointed in the way we played this weekend," head coach Tracey Kee said. "I do not feel like we executed on the pitching mound as a staff nor do I feel our offense was able to find a rhythm."
The Mean Green came out of the gates hot with a lead-off double by senior Brooke Foster. She was advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Spencer Ferrell then sent home on a double by junior Dani Hoff.
In the second inning, senior Jackie Miller led off for North Texas with a walk. She advanced to second on a Jen Beardsley single and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
But the Panthers dug in on their senior day, scoring a combined seven runs in the third and fourth innings en route to a run-rule victory over the Mean Green.
North Texas has a quick turnaround as it heads to Waco on Tuesday, March 29, for a meeting with the Baylor Bears. First pitch for that game is at 6 p.m.
