It’s about building relationships. When the local youth football league was filled with team names of other college programs, the North Texas athletics department stepped in. Now the Denton All-Star Youth Football League is filled with Mean Green teams. On any Saturday you can catch games between Mean Green White or Mean Green Silver or even Mean Green Black.

“We want to help build that community pride and we want these kids at a young age to have an awareness about Mean Green football,” said Lindsay Dutton who serves as the chairman of the DAYFL. “Everyone has a favorite team growing up and we want their favorite team to be the Mean Green.”
